"Con-Fusing" Exotica - Sanjukta Ghosh pg 274-282

Recap: This article talks about how the media used in many places has basically removed the Indian aspect of this culture. Also shows how the media manipulates the imagery to show Indian like products but removes the Indian cultural aspect while generally using a white female to show the product. The people of India have been lumped into the Orientalist gaze of the American advertising media. Lightly touched upon is that this appears to be happening to all minority cultures in the United States but mostly directed to the removal of the Indian culture. Perceptions of their culture are ignored and lost.

Comment: Looking at all the commercials and magazine advertisements that I have seen recently really makes me wonder why the advertising agencies don't direct some marketing towards this population here in the United States. They generally are well educated and not of the lower income classes. Looks to me like a lost revenue that could be had by them and also make for a better acceptance of their culture as people would be more exposed to it through advertising.
