King Kong and the White Woman - Gail Dines, pg 451-461

Recap: The idea of the black man being the heavy hitter in the sexual way has been around for decades. The portrayal of the black man being a savage in bed while pushing the white man to the background continues to be a mainstream issue. With the magazine, Hustler, using the cartoons to portray blacks in a very racial way goes against the main stream focus on how pornography is used. Meaning that the other two big names, Playboy and Penthouse, tend to publish their product about a perfect white society. Blacks have to work to move their image to be equal to whites or at least about the same.

Comment: Interesting that the article starts off with mentioning the Birth of a Nation movie that we have watched in class. I was not expecting other connections to the movie in our readings. It is bad how the cartoons continue to spread racism about black males. Why is it that everyone has to take some issue that is different about another races and make it become a huge focal point?
